Writing in the Rhetorical Tradition - from fall 2008. This is a junior-level course designed to help students become familiar with the basic classical rhetorical principles in the arts of invention, arrangement, style, and presentation, apply those principles to the analysis of persuasive discourse, and apply those principles to their own writing for a variety of audiences and purposes. This section was organized around a contemporary political issue chosen by each student in consult with the instructor.

Academic Writing and Research - from summer 2008. This is the required writing course for all NC State students. A Writing in the Disciplines program, our FYWP requires an exploration of literate practices across a range of academic domains, laying the foundation for further writing development in college. Additionally, it is designed to teach basic critical literacy, providing instruction and practice in critical reading, including the generative and responsible use of print and electronic sources for academic research.
